Moshing and crowd surfing with braces just seems like a painfully bad idea. As does standing in line for Underoath’s autograph in 95 degree weather, while wearing all black from head to toe. And a sunburn that perfectly traces your neon American Apparel tank and matching neon plastic Ray Bans. But it’s worth it for Warped Tour fans.
Last weekend Van’s Warped Tour moshed it’s way up and down the California coast. Hitting San Francisco’s Pier 30 on Saturday. And for the fifteenth year, music fans endured the outdoors and swarms of sceney boppers to flail around in circle pits and sing along to some screamo.
Despite the blazing heat in Pomona and the freezing ocean fog in Ventura I survived two Warped Tours and lived to tell about some of the best and worst of Warped.
Funniest Performance
NoFx
They dedicated “F*** the Kids” to Michael Jackson. It was hard to see from my low vantage point (unfortunately walking all day requires flats) but their stage had dolls and rainbow flags somewhere up there. Bay Area represent!
Best Sing a Long
Bad Religion
Old school rockabilly punks harmonized with 16-year-old new jacks for an interesting sight and excellent sound. Good energy none-the-less.
Fave Cause
PETA
Sign up. Get a neon sticker that says “Animal Testing Breaks Hearts.” Awesome.

Cutest Booth
New York Couture
Leggings with bows, tulle, lots of ruffles, and black and white panda baby doll dresses. Adorable! Definitely my favorite thing at Warped Tour. So cute.
“Best” Crowd Response
Millionaires
As the girls screeched on and on about money, booze, and getting laid their high-pitched electronic beats induced eye rolling and tattooed grown men to contort their faces into that overly excited expression that only 16-year-old cheerleaders should make as they sarcastically bobbed their heads and bounced away to another stage. It was funny at least.
Most Eye Catching Cause
F*** Cancer Tshirts
Not entirely sure what they are for but I do know that it’s hard to miss a shirt that says “F*** F*** F*** F*** Cancer” in Frankie Goes to Hollywood style. Agreed.
Most "Interesting" Sound
Brokencyde
We were drawn to the stage by the hybrid of electro and hiphop beats. Then we realized they were throwing in random hardcore sceaming. Very interesting. Wait. Did they just say “Girl, you make my pee pee hard?” Interesting sound and lyrics. Oh kids these days…
