Recent talks of having to close most of California's state parks left many Californians dismayed, as many voiced their displeasure in no uncertain terms. Among those on the chopping block set to close this fall were the following:
Anza-Borrego
Border Field
Carlsbad beach
Cuyamaca Rancho
Palomar Mountain
San Pasqual Battlefield
Silver Strand
Torrey Pines
However, a report today on the Union-Tribune's front page has informed us that Gov. Schwarzenegger and his administration have come up with an alternative plan; one that will not require the closing of these state parks. Instead, maintenance costs will be trimmed, park hours of operation slimmed, an undetermined number of positions cut, as well as stopping the planned purchase of vehicles and other equipment.
Altogether, these moves are supposed to save the state around $14.3 million.
