Things are getting a bit more intense. The fighting and killing in Mexico has increased dramatically in recent years.
Today's incident at the San Ysidro Port of Entry only increase the public's concerns over the nation's safety. It appears as though the violence rooted in Mexico is on the verge of spilling into America's streets.
This is not to say that America's streets are free of crime and violence. We already deal with national issues of our own, but the increasing instability in Mexico contributes to, among other things, the already heated debate concerning immigration reform, for example.
According to a Reuters report posted on Yahoo News!, the entire port of entry in San Ysidro was closed for several hours, following a shootout between U. S. Border agents and suspected human traffickers. According to the report, US agents tried to stop 3 vans jammed with 70 illegal immigrants when the traffickers began shooting at the agents across "lines of traffic".
All the illegal immigrants were arrested and taken into custody. No fatalities were repoted. Three people in the vans and one other motorist were wounded in the incident. The severity of the injuries is not mentioned.
