According to reports on ESPN.com, General Manager Kevin Towers of the San Diego Padres is expected to be fired this Saturday.
The source of the news spoke on condition of anonimity because the Padres have not officially made the announcement. According to the report, the team is scheduled to make the announcement on Saturday afternoon.
In what is sure to be a very unpopular move, new Padres CEO, Jeff Moorad, appears set to make changes sooner rather than later. Many will probably question the timing of this reported move. Why not wait until the end of the season, which is only a couple of days away.
A team that has gone from playoff contenders in recent years to laughable these past two years and now, finally, apparently back from the abyss the Padres now seem loaded with plenty young talent set to make a huge difference in the near future.
Other changes are sure to come along, such as the likely departure of long-time fan favorite Brian Giles, who's seen this season sink into a prolonged stay on the disabled list, leaving him with a batting average of under .200.
Next year is sure to bring a lot of excitement, optimism, and plenty of fresh, new faces.
