This year Halloween falls on a Saturday and there are parties and events everywhere for adults looking to dress up and have some fun in New York City. Yes, New York City is host to the annual and traditional Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village, but there is plenty more going on that night. If you are looking for Halloween events with a more Latino or urban flavor, there is a host of happenings going on throughout the city. Here is a listing of just a few of them:

The nonprofit Organization of Puerto Rican Artists (OP-Art) celebrates its Annual Halloween Party: “RIP.” From 6 p.m. “until the witches leave” join the fun and show how creative you can be and get your photo taken too. This Halloween event is at The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center - room 309, 107 Suffolk Street, between Rivington Street and Delancey Street, in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Costumes are required.
The $5 cover includes:
*Professional photo with your costume by renowned photographers Luis Carle and Peter Madero
*Complimentary drink from 6 – 7 p.m.
*Art Installation by Rafael Rosario Laguna
*Art Sale by O.P. Art Artists and
*permanent Mural by Artist Jose Luis Cortes.
*There will also be $10 “Grab Bags” with great surprises.

“Our Halloween Party is a benefit fundraiser for our organization O.P.Art (www.op-art.org),” says, Luis Carle, director of OP-Art. “We have done it before. This is our third one, and it becomes a great interaction between artists, because I am a photographer and my studio is the place for the event and everyone gets creative in one way or another. It is fun, and I hope it will become a tradition. All the witches get together.”

Help raise money to continue our support of the artistic community. (O.P.Art) is a project sponsored by The New York Foundation for the Arts, and is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

Also in Manhattan, the False Faces exhibit and masquerade kicks off Halloween night. The gala artist reception for False Faces showcases the work of a diverse group of artists, including a few Latinos. Masquerade: False Faces is an exhibition and event organized by The Urban Individualists, an international artists collective.

According to the event’s description: “Masquerade: False Faces, is a multimedia exhibition which includes masks and other art works by artists responding to symbolic and concrete uses of masks related to carnival, ceremonial, spiritual, and other societal appearances of ‘masking’. The exhibition will examine the mask as a wearable work of art, as a means of hiding or changing the identity of a person, as a protective device, literal and metaphoric meanings of “masking” in contemporary culture.
Historically, mask-makers have shown great resourcefulness in selecting
and combining a wide array of materials. Artists in this exhibition also incorporate familiar and unexpected materials in their works.”
Featured artists: Paul Deo (New Orleans native, residing in NYC), Gary Dunn (Brooklyn, NY), Wahala Temi (raised in Nigeria, resides in NYC), Mia Hernandez (Queens NY), Mariam Muradian (Seattle, Wash), Gloria Holwerda-Williams (NYC), Booker T. Williams (NYC), Miron Abromovici (Israeli native, residing in N.J.), Sarah Hoffman (Columbus Indiana), Juancarlo Suazo (Puerto Rico native, residing in NYC), Helene Ruiz (Bronx NY), Jennifer Geiss aka Darkest Artist (Merrill, Wisconsin)
