Front page of Al Gore's Climate Crisis website

I caught a presentation of “Inconvenient Truth” the other night on cable TV and it - “blew me away!” That documentary immediately caused me to reflect on the state of the world since the beginning of our new millennium.

Even now, 8 years later, it’s hard for me to comprehend that a bunch of hanging paper chads, dangling from those election ballots in my home state of Florida, set off a series of events that will go down in history as the train wreck that is the George W. Bush Presidency.

Hanging, Swinging, Pregnant or dimpled, those same little scraps of paper may have had even more of an impact on global warming.

Why?

Because Al Gore is an environmentalist and even back then in 2000, he realized that humanity was sitting on a ticking time bomb. Gore knew that man was having a detrimental impact on the earth’s environment and he had already begun working hard, trying to do something about it.

Now, in hindsight, we’re all left to wonder – “Would our world, as well as our environment, be in better shape if Gore had won the election?

Furthermore, you don’t have to be a scientist, or even an environmentalist to understand what’s happening to our earth. Just
ask any farmer, or any surfer, or for that matter, any motorcyclist like me, and we’ll all tell you that our weather is getting warmer. And along with this steady increase in temperature has come epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced.

After Gore’s concession in 2000, George W. chose to ignore the world's scientific community that was warning of earth’s growing environmental crisis, choosing instead to discount their scientific evidence. Bush steadfastly refused to acknowledge the fact that greenhouse gases are caused by man - instead choosing to focus his administration on technologies that would enable us to live better lives and at the same time protect the environment.

But fortunately for us all, after his defeat, Al Gore chose to re-set the course of his life and focus on a last-ditch, all-out effort to help save our planet from irrevocable change. He ressurected, edited and adapted an environmental slide show presentation he had compiled years earlier. He took his show on the road doing presentations on global warming across the U.S. and
around the world. Since then, Gore estimated he had shown his environmental slide show more than one thousand times.

Then, in 2004, Producers Laurie David and Lawrence Bender saw Gore's presentation in New York City. Inspired, they met with director Davis Guggenheim about the possibility of making Gore’s slide show into a movie. AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, was the result and the rest is history.

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, which was an immediate hit at the Sundance Film Festival, offers viewers a passionate and inspirational look at one man's fervent crusade to halt global warming's deadly progress in its tracks by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it.

In this eye-opening and poignant portrait of Gore and his "traveling global warming show," Gore also proves himself to be one
of the most misunderstood characters in modern American public life. In the movie Gore is seen as never before in the media - funny, engaging, open and downright on fire about getting the surprisingly stirring truth about what he calls our "planetary
emergency" out to ordinary citizens before it's too late.

President Bush, when asked whether he would watch the film, responded: "Doubt it."

Bringing a lifetime of experience at the intersection of public policy, technology and media, Al Gore wasn’t done yet! In 2005, he co-founded Current TV along with Joel Hyatt.

And ever since, Emmy award-winning Current TV has been the world's leading peer-to-peer news and information network. Current is the only 24/7 cable and satellite television network and Internet site produced and programmed in collaboration with its audience. Current connects young adults with what is going on in their world, from their perspective, in their own voices.

With the launch of Current.com, the first fully integrated web and TV platform, users can participate in shaping an ongoing stream of news and information that is compelling, authentic and relevant to them.

Today, Current is viewed in the U.S. and U.K. in more than 51 million households through distribution partners Comcast (Channel 107 nationwide), Time Warner (nationwide), DirecTV (channel 358 nationwide), Dish Network (channel 196 nationwide), Sky (channel 183) and Virgin Media Cable (channel 155).

Ignorance - politics - procrastination – they are our enemy.

Global Warming is real – the evidence is so overwhelming that only a fool would disagree. Humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb and there’s no second chance to get it right.

So, if you haven’t done so already, I urge you to educate yourself by watching “Inconvenient Truth.” I’ll bet you that documentary will motivate you to stop procrastinating and immediately start doing whatever you can to become part of the “Global Warming” solution. Get involved at any level you can - by converting your lighting from tungsten to CFL or by contacting your political representatives to demand they stop playing partisan politics and unite for the common good to solve the earth’s nvironmental crisis – not only because it’s the right thing to do but also because we have to before it’s simply too late!

And, as one reader of my last article astutely pointed out, i missed referring to the Cato Institute. So, here’s the link:

and, not surprisingly, there you will also find information
about  the EPA and it’s reaction to the environmental facts
documented  in Gore’s documentary, “Inconvenient Truth”
