As the traditional school year comes to a close here in Orlando, we are winding down our homeschooling academics. Each member of the family is imagining the perfect summer schedule. Although I do think it is important to let the boys just play, I must make sure that they get enough time out of the house so that the walls don't start closing in on me. I mean them. Right now we have a long list of things we would like to do. My job is to decide what fits into the calendar and budget.
For exercise our list of possible activities includes swimming lessons and working out at the health club. I have grand plans of canoeing at Wekiwa Springs State Park, tubing at Rock Springs, and picnicking at various playgrounds. The boys are lobbying for us to buy a frequent user card for Monkey Joe's for rainy afternoons while area splash pads like the one at Dr Phillips Community Park are perfect for hot summer days.
Our summer homeschooling focus is science and reading. For science we plan on frequent trips to the Orlando Science Center using our family pass and using our stash of science kits that we have collected from various stores on clearance. For reading we will be attending preschool and elementary aged summer programs at different branches of the Orange County Library and the Osceola County Library. In addition, each of us has a long list of books for summer reading.
