The mechanics of the chemicals are ominous. Bongs can mitigate the searing heat of ignited weed, but that’s about all the help they give.
The smoke is held in the lungs and under pressure (holding the breath), forcing chemical gases (from carbon monoxide and a number of carcinogens such as benzo(a)pyrene) to pass into the bloodstream. They settle into fat cells, only to be released when exercising consumes them.
The tars, and many of the others are more prolific in pot than in tobacco. Those and other particulate matter take up permanent residence in the lungs, setting one on a path to lung diseases, if the user lives that long …. Smoking a joint is found to equal smoking 2.5 to 5 tobacco cigarettes at one time.
Often, with the poor choices associated with marijuana use, they don’t ….. live long; one of those all too common poor choices is to move on to another drug.
Not seeing the entire picture, the user incorrectly rationalizes, “they lied to me about pot; I wonder what other drugs they’ve lied about?” Death is always just around the corner for us all, but for drug users the reaper is a constant companion!
Cases of respiratory tract cancer have been reported in young marijuana smokers - some who have never smoked tobacco.
