There is no greater honor than having the opportunity to design a wedding for a member of our Armed Forces and that honor was doubled recently since I was asked to do one for an Air Force pilot and his fiancée on the 4th of July!

Weddings are always special – but doing one for someone serving in the military is even more special – and fun.

This weekend’s wedding will stand-out as one of my all-time favorites! It was a destination wedding to a guest ranch belonging to a friend of the groom and his family. We had the entire 1,600 acre ranch, plus the adjoining guest ranch for friends and immediate family, where they enjoyed the pool, played golf, rode horses and had a wonderful time enjoying being together and celebrating the couple.

The ceremony took place at sunset on the top of a hill with a 360 degree view of about 30 miles. As guests sat under 200+ year old oak trees, they enjoyed music performed by a chamber orchestra, an amazing vocalist and special readings by friends. At the completion of the ceremony, the couple exited the area through an archway of sabers held by some of their closest friends and Air Force officers. And, of course, the traditional kiss and welcome into the Air Force for the new bride.

The reception was held at ranch headquarters with a catered fajita dinner with gingham tablecloths, sun flowers, wildflowers and a terrific local dance band. The bride’s cake was a 4-tier, light blue and white confection, while the groom’s cake resembled a humidor – complete with cigars. The 200+ guests also enjoyed watching a few brave souls try their luck on the mechanical bull… now THAT was entertaining!

At the end of the evening our couple exited the wedding under an archway of sparklers. Friends and family continued the party with plenty of dancing, toasts and best wishes for the new couple.

Weddings are always special – but sometimes a couple comes along that really stands out that you’ll always remember. It’s always an honor to work with someone like that and we’re very grateful that we had the opportunity to do so - Congratulations and best wishes to K & C!
