Recently it looked as if Pat Toomey was undoubtedly going to win the Republican nomination for the U.S Senate due to the lack of competition, especially after Ridge announced he would not seek the nomination. This was the case until today.
According to Alex Roarty at politicspa.com:
State Senator Jane Orie met with Pennsylvania and national Republican leaders in Washington recently to discuss running for U.S. Senate, multiple sources have confirmed to PoliticsPA.
The meeting included Pennsylvania GOP Chairman Rob Gleason and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn, sources tell the site.
Some speculate that Toomey cannot win the general election in Pennsylvania due to his staunch Conservatism. Many believe Orie can give Toomey a fight.
Senator Orie was first elected as a State Representative in 1996 where she served until 2000. In 2001, she was elected into the State Senate where she currently serves as the Majority Whip.
Her sister, Joan Orie Melvin, is currently the Republican nominee for State Supreme Court.
