King Solomon built the world’s greatest temple. The structure was at the center of the Monotheistic universe. Its beauty caused the African queen, Sheba, to faint at the very sight of its splendor. But the Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar, destroyed Solomon’s temple as his armies marched across and conquered the known world. After Babylon fell to the Meads and the Persians the region lay fallow for nearly seven decades.

Eventually a man named Nehemiah, who was cub-bearer to the Persian king, Cyrus, received permission to return to his homeland and rebuild the temple. However the completed structure was in no way as splendiferous as Solomon’s. Rather it was anemic and humble by comparison. Upon its completion old men who had seen, first hand, Solomon’s glorious temple, wept at the memory its lost magnificence.

A shining city on a hill

The United States of America has a representative form of government that is as splendiferous a political system as Solomon’s temple was a religious shrine. Nations worldwide have gazed across two vast oceans at what we have built and are envious. Our Bill of Rights has set the freedom standard for every nation under the sun. Our capitalistic economic system has helped to create the world’s greatest super power. We have one of the world’s highest standards of living and produce the world’s highest quality products. American health care draws patients from every corner of the earth for treatment. Even the poorest in our country are better off than 90% of the world’s population. America feeds more poor people worldwide than all other nations combined.

We are a nation of horsepower-rich muscle cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles, Lunar Landers, Mars probes, luxury yachts, rock and roll, and multi-plex theaters. Our movies, music and art are admired all over the world. Our military hardware is a source of envy for every nation. People from the world over come here to have complex medical procedures performed.

We are the most innovative, resourceful and free people on the planet. American entrepreneurs have logged more inventions to benefit humankind than any other group.  We are the worlds most generous people. We have fed more hungry bellies, freed more oppressed citizens, and deposed more despots than any nation in history. Reagan was right when he called America a bright and shining city on a hill. All eyes are cast upon our country as immigrants from every corner of the earth seek entrance. That is until now.

Be careful what you vote for

Americans voted for change and now the structure of our nation is being changed at a breathtaking pace. Like the Babylonians marching across Asia destroying everything in their path, Obama is trampling the American way of life into dust and the progressives are reassembling it in Obama’s image.

Our President wields more power than the founders ever imagined. The liberal congress is rubber stamping every one of his socialistic whims, often writing and passing bills which no one has time to read. Obama has violated the Constitution in numerous ways, each time wresting away some of our precious freedoms. Yet, with the exception of a few Rush Limbaugh types, few dissenting voices are heard.

Obama has nationalized the banking system and automobile manufacturing. He has fired the CEOs of private corporations and has dictated what kind of cars Americans will buy. He has places those who should be first in line for payment in bankruptcy proceedings at the back of the line. He has turned over control of private enterprise to labor unions. He has appointed a pay czar who can dictate how much people can earn. The inventiveness of Americans is slowly being eroded with economic policies that punish risk-takers and entrepreneurs who start the businesses that employ Americans. He even has his eyes set on our healthcare, moving toward a European-style national system which includes strict healthcare rationing.

He has stopped the coal and oil industries in their tracks, even though over 50% of our energy comes from coal. He demands that we switch from coal to wind and solar energy which accounts for less than four percent of our energy needs. He halted exploration and construction of new coal-fired energy plants, oil refineries, and nuclear power plants. He plans to set in place a cap-and-trade system which will raise our energy costs to all-time highs.

Our military, which keeps us safe in a very dangerous world, is carefully being dismantled, along with the morale of the troops. Our long-time allies are being snubbed and our enemies embraced by the Obama administration.

His plan for the Obama Youth Corps is moving forward so that our children will learn to adore and have loyalty only to The One, their great leader. He has caused untold harm to future generations by saddling our offspring with massive debt that will never be repaid.

Barak Obama has promised change, and change we are getting. I am fearful that the day will come when old men who had seen, first hand, the glory that was once the United States of America, will weep at the memory its lost magnificence.
