"Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time, that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith." -- Ronald Reagan
"Liberal Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava stunned the New York political world Saturday by announcing the suspension of her campaign for the state's 23rd Congressional District three days before the election." – The Washington Times
In an example of how true conservatives can win the day in national elections, Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman is now the front runner in New York’s 23rd Congressional District race. The Republicans attempted to run a Republican in name only (RINO) against liberal Democrat, Bill Owens. The only problem was that the Republican nominee, Dede Scozzafava, was as liberal as the candidate against whom she was running.
Scozzafava is a pro choice RINO; pro card check, pro stimulus, supports gay marriage and Cap and Trade; all programs that Democrats embrace. That meant that there was no clear choice for voters in the right-leaning 23rd district. Enter Doug Hoffman, a man with no political experience but loaded with Reagan-like thinking and backed by the Conservative Party.
23rd District voters immediately took to Hoffman whose low tax, small government message was like finding cool water in a liberal desert. Running third in recent preference polls, Scozzafava dropped out of the race just three days before the special election which was being held for a vacated congressional seat. Although the Republican Party invested $900,000 in her campaign, Scozzafava showed her true colors when she didn’t endorse Hoffman, but instead threw her support behind Bill Owens. (Many liberal organizations, like ACORN and NARAL, had also supported her bid for the seat.)
I suspect that Republican Party leaders read the handwriting on the wall and asked Ms. Scozzafava to bow out of the race. Now, with Scozzafava out the path is clear for Hoffman, who was endorsed by political heavyweights Fred Thompson, Sarah Palin, and Gov. George Pataki. Newt Gingrich, who originally endorsed Scozzafava, arrived on the Hoffman bandwagon at the last opportunity, which could hurt him in the future. As of this writing a day before the election, Hoffman has a noteworthy lead in the polls.
Some pundits claim that this is an example of the increasing potential for a 3rd party movement in American politics. I disagree. Regardless of the 23rd Congressional District election outcome, the Hoffman phenomenon has to be viewed as a wake up call for the Republican Party.
The Republican Party is infested with RINOs and the Democrat liberals in Congress are running roughshod over them. If the party hadn’t lost its way during the Bush years, our nation wouldn’t be in the financial situation in which we find ourselves. If party leaders hadn’t viciously attacked Sarah Palin’s bid for Vice President because she isn’t one of us I’d still have a modicum of respect for Republicans.
Here’s a history lesson: House Speaker Gingrich’s 1994 Contract with America, that brought a Republican majority to both houses, turned out to be a huge disappointment for Americans. As soon as the Republicans gained Congress they quickly forgot how to be conservatives. Thus began the largest spending spree in American history. As a result, Republicans lost both houses and the presidency and now Obama and his left-wing cohorts make Bush spending look like a run to the corner convenience store for milk and eggs.
The media and Republican leaders want us to believe that for the party to survive we have to shift left toward the center of political ideology. We did that with both Bush forty-one and forty-three. It got us into deep financial trouble. But Hoffman’s race indicates that right-thinking Americans desire a return to the Reagan style of governing. Tax cuts, reduced spending, strong military and less government regulation under Reagan led to an economic boom and worldwide respect that lasted until the recent economic meltdown during the waning months of the George W. Bush presidency.
Let Doug Hoffman be an example of the power of the electorate. To regain our economic freedom we need to put true conservatives in office. We have to stop thinking that any Republican is better than a Democrat, especially if the Republican is a RINO. The Hoffman run must serve to shake up the Republicans, sending fear through the RINO heard like the scent of a stalking pride of lions. I relish a RINO bloodbath in the 2010 elections, along with a dramatic thinning of the donkey heard.
It is high time to replace the RINOs with Reagan conservatives. I refuse to vote for any incumbent in the primary elections. And if the Republican that is selected to run after the primaries is a RINO I will vote for a third party candidate or write in my choice during the general election.
Many Republicans disagree with me. But unless we take dramatic action, we will not be able to stem the tide of Marxist style socialism that is sweeping through our government.
Enough is enough. Take our country back. Throw the bums out.
