The Southeast Texas Bridal Preview held Sunday afternoon, September 20th at the main ballroom of the MCM Elegante Hotel in Beaumont was a huge hit.  With attendance easily topping more than 250 there was a steady stream of brides, grooms, family and friends.  The Hotel ballroom was arranged to resemble a wedding reception more than the rows of booths one finds at a typical bridal show.  The room layout worked well as it encouraged the brides to circulate throughout the room.  It was easy to see the dozens of vendors from any vantage point.  Garnering a lot of interest was the Old Hardin Carriage Company strategically staged in the middle of the room.  Of course everyone had to stop for a nibble of the delicious mini cupcakes at Something Sweet BakeryA Touch of April florals showcased their gorgeous arrangements at their booth and on the tables dressed by The Linen House.  DJs from two companies, Jimi Jams and JAM DJ, kept the music pumping with a mix of contemporary pop and Motown classics. The 'Man Cave' sponsored by Academy Sports and Outdoors was a groom pleaser with games, prizes and a giant screen TV tuned to the Texan's football game.

From what the brides told us at The Linen House station, popular wedding reception colors are aqua, eggplant or berry usually in combination with colors such as champaign or chocolate. Pinks and greens, though not used together, were strong trends for brides planning spring and summer weddings. The trend of using black and white remains strong though several brides told us they plan to soften up the colors by combining black with cream accented with red or burgundy florals.

Brides who came to this show were planning weddings 8 weeks to 2 years out. The bride getting married in November was scrambling to tie up loose ends. Several brides who attended aren't getting married until 2011 so they were simply doing a little window shopping.  It is much too early to make any definite decisions now. The majority of brides had weddings within the next 12 months so this show gave them a wonderful opportunity to make specific plans. One bride told us she strategically selected February 20th as her wedding date so she and her groom would celebrate Valentine's Day on their honeymoon. In addition, she figured the wedding anniversary and Valentine's Day are just far enough apart there can be no combining anniversary and Valentine gifts in the future.  This bride should report back in ten years and let us all know how that plan is working for her.

Several Houston brides traveled east on I-10 to attend the show because they are planning a Beaumont area wedding and wanted to meet vendors who serviced the local area. Most brides however were residents of Jefferson County. These young ladies plan to have their wedding reception in one of the lovely local venues such as the MCM Elegante Hotel that hosted the show, the Neches Room, the Botanical Gardens, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, the new Stone Lodge or the Beaumont Country Club.  More than one bride will have an intimate at home wedding.

Regardless of location, size or budget, as one bride commented as she flipped through The Linen House wedding photo albums, "These pictures make me realize all weddings are beautiful." How right she is.
