Many people would like to have a sophisticated beach styled home but are afraid that their home may end up looking like a cheap seafood restaurant. If you would prefer to have a home decorated like an elegant Hamptons beach house instead of a beach shack souvenir store, see the tips listed below.
Beach style furniture and accessories tend to be eclectic yet comfortable. They are not fussy and are casual enough that you can put your feet up. Decorate with tables that do not require drink coasters. Slipcovered furniture in a solid pattern works well because it is simple and easy to clean. Do not decorate with furniture that has a pattern like a Hawaiian shirt. Consider shopping in local antique stores for unique vintage accessories.
Don't over decorate your house with beach themed accessories. If you have a collection of lighthouses, seashells, or boats, keep the collection in one limited location and not spread throughout the entire house or room. Natural elements, such as starfish, coral, sea glass, or sea fans, work well as decorative accessories. Have fewer, larger, and more quality accessories.
Beach style homes tend to have a lot of white - white moldings, white paneled walls, and white cabinets. Balance out all that white with decorative touches of black to add sophistication. You can have black countertops, black cabinet knobs, black curtain rods, and/or black and white photography. Consider painting your walls a light color reminiscent of water.
Wood floors and other wood stained elements adds warmth to a cool beach style color scheme. If you use wood or wood looking laminate floors, make sure to keep them away from water sources.
To give your beach style home a relaxing feel, decorate it with hard back books. You can display the books in bookcases and as accessories on tables.
