Whether you have a home office or actually leave your home to go to work, many people spend more awake hours in their office or cubicle than anywhere else. Why can't your workplace be as nice as your home? Here are some tips to decorating your office or cubicle in a stylish yet professional way.
1) Select a color scheme that has one primary color and one or two secondary colors. Purchase larger office items that are your primary color. The larger items can include file folders, a vase, and a coffee mug. Purchase smaller items in your secondary color or colors. This can include paper clips, a picture frame, and a stapler.
Try to use decorative but functional items that incorporate all the colors of your color scheme, such as a mouse pad. Many furniture stores, office supply stores, and organizational stores carry basic office supplies in designer colors, so keep your eyes open for items that interest you. Don't forget to look online at places like Amazon.com, Office Depot, Walmart, and Get Organized.
2) Make sure to keep your work surface tidy. Just as you would make your bed if you were having guests to your home, your office or cubicle needs to be just as organized.
3) Do not incorporate too many non-functional items into your office or cubicle decor. One photo of your family is enough. Do not clutter your office or cubicle with lots of photos, artwork from your children, or personal mementos.
