Do you remember the Yaz or Yazmin commercials for the popular birth control pill? "We're not gonna take it" blared through the television screen while women portrayed the freedom they now had from symptoms associated with PMS like bloating, irritability, and mood swings. But the Food and Drug Administration wasn't so thrilled with the commercials.

Bayer, the company that manufactured the drug was cited for misleading advertising and required to clear up the confusion. The FDA felt consumers were not well informed regarding what would be realistic results from taking the drug or given a clear explaination about the serious side effects of taking Yaz.

So is Yaz safe?

The Food and Drug Administration was very concerned. This birth control product has not been banned, but is responsible for causing patients serious and minor side effects that anyone considering the oral contraceptive needs to consider.

So ask yourself, are you prepared to deal with the following problems? Is it worth your health to choose this method of treatment for PMDD, minor acne, and to enjoy birth control with fewer periods?

Less serious symptoms were reported to include decreased sexual desire, headaches, vaginal discharge, yeast infections, nasea, and vomiting. On the other end of the spectrum, some users suffered from blood clots, depression, migraines, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. Sound like fun yet?

Smokers are especially at risk for any of the above health problems from using Yaz. And unlike the commericals indicated, Yaz does not in fact treat symptoms of PMS.

So did Yaz clear up the confusion?

What do you think? After watching the new commercial (above), are you now an educated consumer?

If not, maybe this spoof on the commercial will make it all crystal clear.
