Mother Nature has postponed the World Series.  Due to the forecast of continued in climate weather, Major League Baseball officials issued a press release shortly after 1 p.m. ET announcing the postponement of the suspended Game 5.  That game was stopped last night due to heavy rains after 5 ½ innings with the scored tied 2-2 before the building was renamed Citizens Bank Waterpark.

The World Series has seen many game rain delays and postponements due to weather but this was the first suspension in the history of the World Series.

Talk about raining on a parade.

With the Phillies one game away from winning the World Series, the clubhouse was assuredly stocked with the bubbly and the permits for the parade down Broad Street all but stamped "received."  After taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the rains came.  The Tampa Bay rays eventually scratched across two runs to tie the game and the rains continued to come forcing the stoppage.

Game 5 is now set to re-start on Wednesday.  But that is not a given either with the current forecast. Not sure if earthquakes come under the jurisdiction of Mother Nature but the last time the Fall Classic was interrupted like this was the 1989 World Series.  That year, the San Francisco Bay Area was rocked with an earthquake forcing a 10-day postponement of the intra-bay series between the Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants.
