In the NBA, the preseason is about finding chemistry.
It's about finding potential longshots.
Sometimes, it's also about the development of young players.
For the Philadelphia 76ers, second-year forward Marreese Speights is one such player. Through seven preseason games, the former University of Florida product has been terrific.
Speights looks like a much more polished player even displaying a left-handed hook shot against the Wizards last Tuesday at the Wachovia Center.
Speights is averaging 13.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Statistics are meaningless in the preseason, but the talent is evident.
If Samuel Dalembert struggles, it's got to be good to know the Sixers can plug in Speights. He played well in flashes last season but consistency was a problem.
Speights looks primed for a breakout season.
That has to be encouraging for the Sixers.
