The Philadelphia 76ers selected point guard Jrue Holiday with the 17th pick in the NBA Draft.

For the Sixers front office, this was a no-brainer. When the UCLA freshman was on the board, there was no question who the franchise was picking.

With just one season of college basketball to his credit, there was bound to be a steep learning curve in the NBA.

Holiday worked out with the Sixers in the Orlando Pro Summer League. He has been working hard through training camp and in the preseason.

But he wants to play. Who wouldn't?

Holiday apparently was miffed that he didn't play in the Sixers' 93-85 exhibition win over the New York Knicks last Tuesday at Madison Square Garden.

You know what? That's OK.

Actually, that's good.

You want players who want to be on the court. It shows their competitive side.

Lou Williams is the starting point guard.

In the NBA, you're a sprained ankle away from playing. So Holiday must be ready.

He could be called on at any time.
