On the last day of the second term of George W. Bush, "The Weekly Standard" and Fred Barnes published an article listing the top ten accomplishments of W's presidency. Now that we are headed towards a year removed from these proclamations, we are going to take a closer look at the claims put forth by the faithfully conservative rag. In an order that does not rank but merely lists, Barnes put forth this hypothesis to test the legacy of George W. Bush.
1. Rejection of the Kyoto Protocol
2. Enhanced Interrogation Techniques
3. Rebuilding presidential authority
4. Support of Israel
5. No Child Left Behind
6. Promotion of Democracy
7. Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit
8. John Roberts and Samuel Alito (Supreme Court appointments)
9. Partnerships in East Asia
10. The Surge
In my successive articles, I will go through the list one-by-one, and uncover the story.
Note: For my legions of readers who thought I was going to profile Bush's press secretaries, that has been put temporarily on hold.
Note #2: Through my research and reader comments, I have noticed something that must be addressed. Whether you are writing a comment critical of George W. Bush (which is the vast majority) or defending his legacy, HE IS NOT A JUNIOR! A male is consider "Junior" when he is given the exact same name as his father. George Walker Bush's father is named George Herbert Walker Bush. Thus, George Walker Bush, is the first, and only, George Walker Bush and should not be referred to as Junior. It is a simple thing to notice that immediately disqualifies one from being taken seriously if they choose to ignore it.
Thank you. It is a beautiful day in Santa Fe. Great big juicy articles to come.
