Who doesn't love trains? Trains hold a fascination for many, and in Colorado, there are a number of really nifty places to see and ride on them. If getting out of town is the intention, the best is still Denver's Union Station. Walking into the cavernous station is a trip back in time. So very Victorian. If you so desire and have a need to get from Denver to say, Emeryville, CA, there is an Amtrak leaving nearly every day. There's the option of sitting in a coach seat, or if you want to ride in style, a la Carole Lombard and Clark Gable, there is always a room with a view. With two beds and a private bath, the amenities are comparable to a nice hotel. Though the room is small - approximately 6 1/2' x 7' - think of it as cozy.

If traveling is not what you want, the best place to see trains is the Colorado Railroad Museum. Their motto is Lose Track of Time, and at the Colorado Railroad Museum, that will definitely happen. This place is way, too, cool. In addition to the locomotives, there is a G-scale, garden railway exhibit, a Coors Refrigerator Car, a Colorado & Southern Caboose, and a Colorado Midland Parlor-Observation Car. So much to see, and most of the trains are Coloradocentric, which fulfills all the needs of the Colorado train buff.

For Father’s Day, the museum is rolling out the red carpet for dad. Dads get in free, and he and the family can enjoy a full day of riding behind the 346 steam locomotive in a passenger car. Historic, nostalgic, fun, exciting - there just aren't enough adjectives to describe the joy Dad and the rest of the family will have. The celebration kicks off on Saturday, June 20, and goes through Sunday, June 21, 2009. Just too much fun.

For more info: The museum is open year round, daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Go to the Colorado Railroad Museum website for all information or call them - (303) 279-4591.
