The most brilliant piece of legislation to stem the tide of illegal immigration is coming close to a vote.

H.R. 3548, authored by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), is known as “E-verify”.  This intricate computer program to stop illegal aliens from obtaining legal status in the United States is only the beginning of something bigger and better.

While many opponents protest it as a “Big Brother” tool from George Orwell’s classic, “1984”, the truth is quite the contrary.  It will lead to a sophisticated matrix of databases to reject ineligible applicants for government benefits while also stopping illegals from entering the country to begin with.

The program is so brilliant in its purpose; it’s hard to understand why anyone can be opposed to its installation.

For American citizens here legally, the program is used exclusively to identify anyone applying illegally for driver’s licenses, automotive insurance, health care benefits, real estate purchases or mortgage applications.

In essence, it will eliminate a substantial portion of illegals attempting to “blend” with American citizens and stop others attempting to come illegally through the borders.

For opponents to rattle on about it infringing on personal liberties, where were these protests when using social security cards became a form of identification?  No one seems to remember that the cards used to say in bold red letters, “No to be used as identification”!

Detractors of the E-Verify plan seem to have formed a bad case of amnesia.

On a continuous basis of usage, H.R. 2548 and its cousin, 287G (although watered down by Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano) will solve the single biggest drain to the American economy for pennies on the dollar rather than the present situation of millions down the drain.

Ironically, one of the harshest critics of this plan is none other than Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-NV).

Senator Reid, who just yesterday introduced the new health care reform bill including a public option in adamantly opposed to any such bill being attached to a proposed 12 week (corrected from  "124 weeks" in original draft) extension of unemployment benefits.  Why?

It is common knowledge that any public option will lead to massive corruption and millions of illegal aliens finding ways to gain taxpayer-paid health care benefits through false identification and other means that can be verified under this new technology.

The facts of Medicare fraud are widely known.  Without such safeguards in place, there is nothing new to stop rampant misuse of the public government option that Reid decries as “essential” in any reform.  His reasoning is ridiculous is light of this incredible technology available right now.

For anyone to argue that it’s an infringement on our rights as citizens is ridiculous.  The mere fact that every American citizen that holds a job in this country needs a social security number has already given the government everything they need to “spy” on us.

This technology will enable authorities to better ferret out those who purposely come to this country under false pretenses whether under the auspices of “a better life” or because they want to kill or maim Americans.

Opponents of this legislation are not learning the facts.  Their opposition is based upon ignorance or greed.

To oppose such a non-threatening type of identification vehicle that will enable law enforcement to more proactively enforce our nation’s laws is beyond comprehension.  I would personally be the first person in the street screaming for my civil rights if this was abusive in any way.

The facts of the manner are it is no more threatening that being asked for a social security number for everything from newspaper subscriptions to mortgage papers.  I don’t see riots in the streets since the social security number became (with any law being passed) a form of national identification that is so easily forged and abused.

For those who need a simpler explanation, consider this:

Someone knocks on your door and you answer.  The people standing there are strangers to you and people you have never heard from or seen in your life.

They immediately scurry by you (your personal property/country), lay out their possessions without your approval (border jumping/trespassing in your home) and partake of your home’s (country’s) conveniences (electricity, water, sewer, etc. /public utilities/highways, etc.).

There is no need to call the police because they will not come.  They are overworked and underfunded to enforce the law.

Your “guests” now have become comfortable and invite more of their family to your house uninvited, demand to raise their flag in your yard and use your taxes to educate their newborn kids (in your house).

Does that make E-verify or House Bill 2548 look a bit more logical now? Or does complaining make you a RACIST?

More on Senator Reid in my next column and why he will be “leaving Las Vegas (and Nevada altogether) soon!  Many of his buddies in other states too.
