Walking for health and research is good for the body, mind and soul. One of the best ways to get in shape is to walk. There are several walks each year to help fund research. What better way to get in shape than to walk a marathon to help a cause.

There is a program in Tampa Bay to help people of all levels get ready for marathons. The main goal of the program is to help those wanting to finish the Gasparilla or the Disney marathon. However, there are plenty more marathons around the Tampa Bay area.

The program is 27 weeks long and consists of a training program, Saturday morning group runs, and among other things a t-shirt.

The orientation for this program is August 29, 2009 and September 5, 2009 at 7a.m. For more information please visit tampabayfit.com.

Other walks coming up around Tampa Bay include:

  1. The Alzheimer’s memory walk scheduled for September 12, 2009 in Weeki Wachee and October 10, 2009 in Tampa. More information about this even can be found at Alz.org/memory walk/ or call 800-772-8672.
  2. The breast cancer three day walk is scheduled for Tampa October 30-November 1, 2009. More information about this event can be found at the3day.org.
  3. The Tampa Bay heart walk is scheduled for November 14, 2009. For more information about this event contact Amanda Baker at 727-563-8114 or Amanda.baker@heart.org.
