Prinze heads to NY to help Jack battle baddies.

When 24 returns in 2010 for it's remarkable 8th season, the new CTU is going to have a new head of field- ops....and it's not Kiefer Sutherland.  According to the Hollywood Reporter, Freddie Prinze, Jr. (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Boston Legal) has been cast to play Davis Cole, a former Marine with his sights set on becoming the next Jack Bauer.

Prinze joins fellow newcomers Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire), who plays the leader of an Middle Eastern country; Chris Diamantopoulos, who comes on as the President's new Chief of Staff and John Boyd who joins CTU as a systems analyst.  Jennifer Westfeldt (Grey's Anatomy, Kissing Jessica Stein) has also joined the cast in a recurring role, playing a journalist.

The new season of 24 went into production Wednesday and will see Jack Bauer and Chloe O'Brien heading to New York this time to battle terrorists.  The action will take place six weeks after the events of the seventh season, which wrapped in May and left audiences with several cliff hangers, a rarity for 24.
