Ep. 68:  Officer Krupke

Near the end of every season there always an episode that seems like its just a filler episode to set up the climax of the season but really serves no other purpose.  For "Curb Your Enthusiasm", this was that  episode.

The episode begins with Jeff and his wife, Susie, driving when she needs to sneeze and searches the glove box for a kleenex but instead finds a pair of women's panties.  Whoops.  So she flips and stars screaming at Jeff.

We find Larry trying on pants at a men's clothing store when the fire alarm goes off and everyone is forced to evacuate.  (Did anyone else notice Ben Affleck was one of the fleeing customers?)  So Larry is outside waiting impatiently and still wearing the stores pants and pissed because he can't get back inside to get his own pants.  He asks a cop how long its gonna be until... "maybe two hours".  Then notices the officer's name is 'Krupke', as in  the 'Officer Krupke' from "Westside Story".  He sings a song from the musical but the cop doesn't get the joke.  Larry doesn't have time to wait so he bolts.

When he gets to Jeff's, Jeff catches him outside and tells him about how his wife found the panties and he needs LD to cover for him and say there were his panties, as in... his panties, like panties he wears.  Larry doesn't like it but he goes along with it.  When he gets in, Susie is in the middle of a conversation with friends, Virginia (Elisabeth Shue) and Dennis (John Schnieder).  It seems Virginia is auditioning for the part of George's wife on the Seinfeld reunion show; the same part that LD already promised to his ex-wife Cheryl.  They start telling Susie the story of how they met.  Larry announces the hates "how we met" stories so he decides to talk a walk so he doesn't have to sit through the grueling story.

On his walk he is stopped by three kids having a lemonade stand.  Being the nice guy that he is, he stops and buys a cup for a buck.  It's awful and he isn't afraid to tell these poor kids that they should be ashamed of themselves for charging so much and he wants his dollar back.  The kids refuse, calling him a 'loser' and a 'bald *sshole'.  When he gets back to Jeff's, Susie is giving him the weird eye, clearly wondering if he's wearing his panties.  There's a knock at the door and its the mother of one of the lemonade kids and she's pissed because the berated the kids about the lemonade quality.  She says she's calling the cops if he ever talks to her kids again.

At the auditions, Virginia and Chery run into each other.  Virginia invites Cheryl to lunch with her husband and wishes  her good luck, sure Cheryl will get the part considering the part is based on her.  In the audition Larry is still wearing the pants from the store, still with the tags as he still intends to return them and get his pants. (ala the Seinfeld episode where Kramer sells his pants to Peterman).  Cheryl reads for the part and Larry and Jerry love her, especially LD.  Then Virginia auditions and Jerry is blown away and convinces Larry they have to go with her.  Besides, it would be better for Larry, more comfortable and less chance of anything happening between Larry and his ex, even though that's why he wants her in the part.

So Larry takes the pants back to the store to pay for the new pants and get the old ones.  But the clerk that helped him tells him the pants aren't there.  They're not lost, they're gone.  Larry is miffed because they lost his pants, but again according to the clerk they're not lost, they're gone and a sign in the dressing room absolves them of any blame.  Larry refuses to pay for the pants and despite the security tags still attached leaves furious.  He runs into Cheryl outside and has to tell her that Jerry wants to go with Virginia for the role of George's wife.  Then Cheryl tells LD about the lunch with Virginia and Dennis and how Dennis asked if she'd be interested in having a threesome.  This enrages Larry even more.....So he goes to confront Dennis at his office about it and Dennis defends his invitation by pointing out that Cheryl is his EX wife.

Back at Jeff's Susie is still suspicious of Larry and the possibility that he wears ladies panties she catches him fidgeting  with his underwear.  Jeff just knows Susie is going to learn the truth but then reveals the good news that Virginia hurt her neck and can't do the Seinfeld part.  LD, being the genius that he is, points out that there is only two ways to hurt a neck....a car accident or going down on someone, which he assumes is Cheryl.  They go to inspect Virginia and Dennis' car but no damage.

The next day, Larry is having lunch with Cheryl and tells her she got the part.  Its all good, Jerry is on board, nothing to worry about.  Cheryl asks why Virginia and Larry tells about the neck injury.  But LD tells her about his theory about Virginia possibly hurting her neck going down on her during their supposed threesome.  Cheryl can't believe it and storms out of the restaurant.  Then Jeff calls screaming that his wife isn't buying the Larry wears women's panties story.  Larry says he has an idea and he's on his way over.

On his way he's driving along, singing the Officer Krupke song from "Westside Story" and just as he passes the lemonade stand house he bellows the line "gee Officer Krupke...KRUP YOU!!", which the kids and mother of course think he yelled something else so she dials 911.  At Jeff's, Jeff and Larry are finalizing the plans when Susie comes in and says Virginia was in a bad car accident in Dennis' car, not Virginia's car.  There's a knock at the door and its who else but Officer Krupke answering the call about obscenities being yelled but Larry reminds him of the song.  Then the cop notices the security tags on LD's pants and demands he return them.  So Larry decides to de-pant right there, revealing his new pink panties, causing Susie to question who he is, to which Larry replies, "I'm Larry Davide and I happen to enjoy wearing women's panties...."

The episode ends with a ring at LD's door.  When Larry answers, its Jeff wearing a neck brace.  "You've got to tell Susie I was in a car accident."  Next week's episode is the Seinfeld reunion table read episode.
