Actors to tag team movie awards
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have announced that Steve Martin and Emmy winner Alec Baldwin will host the Academy Awards in 2010. It will be Martin's third time hosting and Baldwin's first.
Note: (For the record, boys, this doesn't count against your Saturday Night Live career hosting stats in which Martin leads Baldwin 15-14...)
This will be the first time the Oscars will have two hosts since 1957 when Jerry Lewis and Celeste Holme emceed the event. However, during the 70s and 80s it wasn't uncommon for the Academy to roll out triple hosts. In 1987 Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and Crocodile Dundee Paul Hogan hosted.
Besides going with tandem hosts this year, there will be some other changes for the Academy Awards this year. Instead of the usual five nominees for Best Picture, there will be ten. Voters will rank the ten nominated films in order to decide the winner, giving hope to movies like "Up" and "Star Trek", which would have had little to no shot at getting a nomination under the old rules.
The Academy Awards will hand out nominations in February while the show scheduled to air March 7th, 2010 on ABC.
