Esquire fiction contest

The fiction section of Esquire magazine has gone digital. Going forward, all Esquire fiction will appear in its new home online.

To celebrate, Esquire is holding The New Esquire Fiction Contest. Everyone may enter and the winning story will be published in a future issue of the magazine as well as online.

For a fun little twist, the story must be based on one of these three titles:

  • "Twenty-Ten"
  • "An Insurrection"
  • "Never, Ever Bring This Up Again"

Stories must be original and not previously published. The powers-that-be frown on taking an old story and slapping a new title on it. Let yourself be inspired and go from there.

Your story cannot exceed 4,000 words. You may submit only one story. All entries are due by midnight of August 1, 2009 and must be submitted electronically. Go to the contest page of the website for more details and complete rules.

First prize is publication in Esquire and $2,500.
