Real Simple magazine is holding its Second-Annual Life Lessons contest. When did you realize that you had become a grown-up? Perhaps it was when you first paid taxes or met your son’s first girlfriend. Whether the experience was difficult, funny, easy, or bittersweet, share your lesson and you could win.

Entries must be a maximum of 1,500 words. You may submit your work electronically or via postal mail. The contest ends at 11:59 P.M. ET on September 7, 2009 (postal entries must be postmarked by this time and received no later than September 14, 2009).

The contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, age 19 or older at time of entry. All entries will be judged by Real Simple editors, based on the following criteria: originality (25 percent), creativity (25 percent), use of language (25 percent), and appropriateness to contest theme (25 percent).

One winner will receive $3,000, roundtrip economy plane tickets for two to New York City, hotel accommodations for two nights (double occupancy), tickets to a Broadway play, lunch with Real Simple editors, and publication in Real Simple magazine.

For more details and complete rules, visit the Real Simple contest web page.
