Just like Whistler would have made.

It’s the end of the month so there aren’t too many shows opening this weekend. The most interesting looking shows this weekend are probably “Echo” at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City and “The River is Moving” at PYO Gallery in Downtown LA.

“Echo” is a solo show featuring Korin Faught. She had her first show at Corey Helford last year. According to the press release her solo was a “breakout debut” so she must be good then, yeah? Her work really is quite good. It feels very reminiscent of Whistler, but like, if you were really high looking at Whistler. She’s going to unveil a fourteen foot triptych at “Echo” so that should be really cool and worth watching.

“The River is Moving” at PYO sounds interesting because I can’t find too much info about it which makes it pretty mysterious. It’s a solo exhibition from Korea artist Lee Kang So. I can’t find much info about him either which makes him pretty mysterious. The flyer looks really cool. Mystery plus cool flyer equals intrigue.

DNJ is also hosting a show called “Re-Figurative Ordering” which is curated by Kaucyila Brooke. Here’s an excerpt from the press release which should do a much better job of describing it than me.

“’Re-figurative Ordering,’ a group show curated by artist Kaucyila Brooke that features the work of European and American artists who use photography, text, and collage to address their own interpretations of historical subjects. Borrowing from the architectural and art historical concept of figurative ordering, the artists in ‘Re-figurative Ordering’ open a dialogue about cultural perspectives and differences, while playfully re-combining and reordering their material with results that are often ambiguous, uncanny, and unpredictable.”

If you are in Orange County and hate driving there’s “Bored Stiff” at the ARTery this Saturday. It features a lot of standbys like Skibs Barker and Aaron Kraten and it’s surf themed.
