Here are a handfull of shows opening this weekend. Opening this Thursday at M+B Gallery is a collection of photographs by Lisa Jack entitled "Barack Obama: The Freshman." As the title suggests, it is a bunch of photographs of our president when he was a freshman in college. In most or all of the pictures he is smoking and wearing a silly hat, so if you want to see our pres when he was young, smoking and prone to wearing silly hats, this is right up your street.
On Friday we have the closin reception for "Nine Lives: Visionary Artists From Los Angeles" at UCLA's Hammer Museum. The title is prety self explanitory. It is featuring: Lisa Anne Auerbach, Julie Becker, Llyn Foulkes, Charles Irvin, Hirsch Perlman, Victoria Reynolds, Kaari Upson, Jeffrey Vallance, and Charlie White. The show includes video, paintings, drawings, photography, textiles, and two new sculptural installations.
On Saturday there's "Black Market Sugar" at The ARTery which is featuring Miss Kika, Alfie Numeric, Whitney Lenox, Jeni, Shinya, Kono, Miss Berry, Cambria, J. Carabes, Kelly Berg, Prince Praise, Macsorro, Lenoard Croksey, Paul Nuygen, Radhika Hersey, Jules Muck, Cate Rangel, Joshua Lawyer, Glen Arthur, Nick Hernandez, and many more. Most o these artists are regulars at LA spots like Cannibal Flower and The Hive. Also on Saturday is the 4th Annual Culver City Artwalk from noon to 8pm.
