Former vice-presidential contender, governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin announced she will be stepping down as Governor of Alaska in a few weeks, according to KTUU-TV.
Lt. Governor Sean Parnell will take over as governor of Alaska at the end of the month.
There is no confirmation as to why Palin has chosen to step down from her position as governor of Alaska.
Some speculate that she is doing so in order to spend time concentrating on a bid for the presidency in 2012 but it seems unlikely as the move would surely hurt her reputation and her chances at a successful bid for the White House.
It's possible that she has decided to get out of politics altogether because of what she views as media attacks on her and her family. Just last week a Vanity Fair article detailed McCain staffers' criticism of the Alaskan governor.
In the following video, news anchor David Shuster discussed the Vanity Fair article and subsequent emails that have been released by CBS between Sarah Palin and Steve Schmidt.
