Larry Kissell will represent North Carolina's 8th congressional district which includes Charlotte. Kissell defeated his Republican opponent, Robin Hayes who had held the seat for five terms.
Kissell received a degree in economics from wake Forest University in 1969. He worked as a production manager at a hosiery factory for 27 years and later became a social studies teacher at his former high school. The hosiery factory closed in 2001.
Kissell's interest in politics came to the forefront when the effects of NAFTA had devastating effects on the textile industry in his state.
Kissell is newly elected and there is little to know about how he responds to issues. His website gives no information about where he stands on issues like the Iraq war, education or economics. He refused to respond to the Project Vote Smart and others' requests for information on the issues.
Kissell however, does have a blog where he has posted thoughts on some of the problems with his opponent as well as the economic problems facing his community.
Kissell has chosen Leanne Powell as his chief of staff. She managed his winning campaign.
