On April 28, 2009, Sammy Hunter, 31, of Euclid, came home late to his girlfriend, 28-day-old baby boy, and 2-year-old son, who all live together at 2444 Garden Drive in Euclid. Hunter turned the gas on in the oven and with his children and girlfriend nearby, attempted to light a lighter in close proximity to the gas.

911 was called, reporting gas in the apartment. When firemen arrived, Sammy Hunter came to the door and refused them entry, assaulting one of the firemen. Sammy Hunter continued fighting, assaulting two other fire fighters on scene. Police arrived and arrested him.

On October 9, 2009, a jury returned a guilty verdict of attempted aggravated arson, assault on a fire fighter, endangering children, and obstructing official business. Sammy Hunter faces a maximum of 9-1/2 years in prison.

In a separate case, on January 7, 2009, Sammy Hunter stole a lap top from the Glenville Food Mart located at 1258 East 105th Street in Cleveland, and told the store he would give it back if they did not call the police.

On February 18, 2010, Sammy Hunter pleaded guilty to theft and attempted bribery. He faces a maximum of 2 years on this case.

Sammy Hunter's sentencing is scheduled for 10:00 am in front of Judge Timothy McMonagle.
