If you are looking for a festive dessert to wrap up your 4th of July meal, look no further. This cake is as colorful as it is tasty.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups prepared blue Jello liquid
  • 2 cups prepared red Jello liquid
  • 1/4 cup Tabasco Sauce
  • 2 prepared angel food cakes
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • Fresh strawberries and blueberries as desired for garnish

Directions

Combine 16 ounces of blue Jello with 1/2 oz Tabasco Sauce and combine 16 ounces of red Jello with 1/2 oz Tabasco Sauce. Keep colors separate and do not harden. Slice each cake into thirds horizontally. Top the bottom slices equally  with blue Jello and the top slices equally with red Jello. Chill cake at least 6 hours, until Jello is set. Once the layers are set, spread 1 ounce of whipped cream over the blue layer and top with the plain layer of cake. Top this layer with 1 ounce of whipped cream and top with the red layer. Repeat with second cake. Garnish cake withmore whipped cream and fresh berries just prior to serving.

Makes 2 cakes, 12 servings

Cook's Notes-if you do not wish to include the Tobasco Sauce in this recipe, omitting it will not affect the final product (other than not having the warm flavor the sauce provides).
