Starting October 1st and lasting four days, the Modern Art Museum of Ft. Worth will host a short film fest
that will show a variety of indie flicks for avid cinema buffs. This is a great chance to see some awesome indie flicks before they hit theaters.
The four day fest kicks off with a reception at 6, followed by The Boys Are Back at 7:30. Clive Owen is Joe Warr, a sports columnist who looses his wife in a tragic accident. Now a single parent, he must raise his two sons; one curious six year old and rebellious teenager. The Boys Are Back will be at the Dallas Angelika on October 9th
On Friday, October 2nd, renowned Turkish director Nuri Ceylan’s Three Monkeys will be shown at 6. Winner of the Best Director Award at 2008 Cannes Film Festival, Three Monkeys is a tale of murder, an accidental death, and infidelity from a love triangle. Following at 8:15 is Precious, the winner of the 2009 Grand Jury Prize at Sundance. Precious is about an obese teen who is pregnant for the second time by her deadbeat dad and can neither read nor write. When offered a place at an alternative school, she jumps at the chance to change her life. Precious will be at the Dallas and Plano Angelika on November 13th.
There are three great films on Saturday that will be playing. Playing at 2 pm, No Impact Man is a documentary about a man who commits himself to going green and leaving a miniscule carbon footprint. Red Riding: 1974 is the first movie of a trilogy of a crime drama about the real life Yorkshire Ripper. A “surprise film” will play at 7:30 that is supposedly one of the most highly anticipated films of the fall. No Impact Man will be at the Dallas Angelika on October 23rd.
The period piece gets a fresh look from screenwriter Nick Hornby with An Education, playing on Sunday at 2 pm. It’s a clashing of the post war conservative culture and the free love spirit when a teen falls in love with an older man in 1960s London. Don’t Let Me Down, a star crossed lovers tale about modern social taboos, will play at 4 pm. An Education will be at the Dallas and Plano Angelika on October 30th.
