An astounding amount of Oscar-winners and nominees can be seen in Rob Marshall’s Nine, due to be released on November 25th of this year. This musical romance is already generating Oscar-buzz. Marshall directed Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha. The origins of the movie are a bit complex-it is another movie based off of a play that was inspired by Federico Fellini’s autobiographical film 8 ½ . Its original 1982 run a several Tony Awards and its revival in 2003 won some more awards.
Daniel Day-Lewis will star as Guido Contini, a famous Italian director trying to balance his personal and professional life. Nine is his first project since winning the Best Male Lead Oscar in 2008 for There Will Be Blood.

Penelope Cruz won an Oscar in 2008 for her supporting role in Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona. She will play Carla Albanese, Contini’s mistress.
Out of her six nominations, Judi Dench won an Oscar for her supporting role in Shakespeare in Love, back in 1999. Dench will play Liliane La Fleur, a French producer collaborating with Contini on his latest film.
Nicole Kidman’s performance as Virginia Woolf in The Hours earned her a Lead Actress Oscar award in 2003. She is Contini’s muse, the lead actress in most of his films, and at one time his lover.
Sofia Loren plays Guido Contini’s mother. She won her Oscar back in 1962 for her role in Two Women.
Kate Hudson’s role in Almost Famous earned her an Oscar nomination in 2000. She will be playing the role of Stephanie Necrophuros.
Stacy Ferguson, more commonly known in the pop-music world as Fergie, will also star in the film as the prostitute Saraghina.
