Tis the season to get ripped
Tis the season to get ripped
c/o BevMo Holiday Beerfest

This week Mainers joined the club with Californians as Blue Staters who protected something called the sanctity of marriage against abominable gay love, Ft. Hood in Texas went from prepping soldiers for war in the Middle East to witnessing its own psychiatrist spraying bloody murder across the base, and my two favorite UMass grads (Frank Black of the Pixies and J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.) got their bands back together to descend on the Fox Theatre and Fillmore, respectively. Anybody seen my flannel?

As for beer, even if you're not down in San Diego for their first-annual SD Beer Week, there is plenty of great beer to be had:

Tonight, Fri, Nov. 6: The Jug Shop (1590 Pacific @ Polk, SF) hosts mega tasting of Lost Abbey ales. $15, 6:30-8:30.

Sat., Nov. 7Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day sponsored by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA). Location: if not your garage or kitchen, then your homebrewing friend's.

Sun. Nov. 8: Reunion Beer is the right beer to drink and the tasty way to do it. This Double Wheat Ale is a collaboration wrangled by Pete Slosberg between Bison, Elysian, Pizza Port, and Terrapin brewing companies to raise money for IMBCR (to fight Myeloma). Reunion will be poured during a fundraising luncheon and concert at Hopmonk Tavern (230 Petaluma Ave, Sebastopol) featuring guitar wizards Ottmar Liebert and Roy Rogers. $75, 11:30am-3pm. For more info and tix, click here.

Sun., Nov 8: Later that night, join Ken Grossman (Sierra Nevada) & Sam Calagione (Dogfish Head) for what is sure to be a legendary dinner celebrating the release of their collaborative beer: Life and Limb. Limited tickets remain for this 5-course beer pairing meal at Ana Mandara (891 Beach St., SF). $100, 5pm. For more info and tix, click here.

Fri, Nov. 13: The Jug Shop (1590 Pacific @ Polk, SF) continues a month of uh-mazing Friday Night Beer Tastings, this time welcoming Deschutes. Can you say the new batch of Abyss on draft? $TBD, 6:30-8:30.

Sat. Nov 14: I must love my friends in Seattle a lot, because I'm going to their wedding instead of the Bistro's Barrel-Aged Beer Fest. (1001 B St., Hayward) This year's love letter to the wood consists of over 70 beers. $TBD, 11am-7pm.

Sun., Nov 15: Here comes Santa Clause, St. Gambrinus, St. Arnold, Hanukah Harry, and Jack Frost all rolled into one gigantic holiday beer sampling. The BevMo Holiday Beer Fest features over 125 spiced and/or hoppy and/or warming beers that'll have you toasting the season and feeling toasty. In addition to trying out this year's Anchor Our Holiday Ale, taste Chanukah in a glass with HeBrew's Jewbelation 13 and a little Southern hospitality, Christmas-style, courtesy of Shiner Cheers, a dunkelweizen brewed with Texas peaches and pecans.

Stay tuned next week to find out about Sean Paxton the Homebrew Chef's beer dinner at 21st Amendment (11/16), Rogue Public Ale House's barleywine & cheese pairing (11/16), New Belgium's beer dinner at Hopmonk with special kegs (11/18), a troika of Firestone-Walker 13th Anniversary release parties at Toronado, City Beer Store, and Jug Shop, respectively (11/18, 19, & 20).
