Police say girlfriend Sahel Kazemi killed Steve McNair in his sleep

On Saturday, former NFL quarterback Steve McNair, 36, was found dead along with his girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, 20.  McNair suffered four gunshot wounds, while Kazemi sustained one bullet to the head.

Police said on Wednesday that Kazemi shot McNair dead in his sleep because she was distraught about financial problems. Police also said Kazemi believed McNair was seeing someone else.

Friends of Kazemi who were interviewed by authorities said she was making two car payments, her rent had doubled, and she suspected her married boyfriend, McNair, was having an affair with yet another woman.

She reportedly told one friend, “My life is a ball of sh** and I should end it.”

Police Chief Ronal Serpas said they may never know for sure why Kazemi killed McNair in his sleep and then committed suicide. “We do know that she was clearly sending a message during the last five to seven days of her life that things were going bad quickly.”

According to Serpas, Kazemi recently discovered that McNair may be dating another woman, and even followed the woman home, but did not confront her.

Police believe that early Saturday, McNair was asleep when he was killed because he had no defensive wounds. After shooting him in the head, it appears Kazemi shot him twice in the chest and then shot him in the head again. Kazemi then shot herself in the head.

Serpas also said that Kazemi sat next to McNair’s body and tried to position herself to fall into his lap when she died. Instead, her body slid to the floor and Kazemi ended up at McNair’s feet.

An associate of McNair’s, Mike Mu, said McNair’s wife, Mechelle, did not know about Kazemi. There was also no indication the couple was divorcing.
