Authorities have learned that Sahel Kazemi, 20, purchased a semi-automatic pistol from a private individual on Thursday night, possibly in Davidson County. Kazemi, and former NFL star Steve McNair, 36, were found shot to death on Saturday in his Nashville, Tenn. condominium.
A spokesperson for the police, Don Aaron, said tests are still being conducted to determine if Kazemi had gun powder residue on her body.
Aaron also said police had concerns about the length of time between when the bodies were found on Saturday and when 911 was called. Wayne Neely rented the condo with McNair and was first on the scene, but claims he didn’t realize the two had been shot. He called a friend, Robert Gaddy, who arrived at the condo around 1:35 p.m. and called for help.
The slain McNair was shot four times, while Kazemi was killed from a single gunshot wound to the head. Kazemi was found lying on the floor and the pistol was found under her body, causing speculation that she shot and killed McNair and then turned the gun on herself in an apparent murder-suicide.
Police continue to interview people, including Kazemi’s ex-boyfriend, Keith Norfleet, and Aaron said, “We are making some headway in understanding what took place.” But, he added, “We may never know why this happened.”
A memorial service for McNair is scheduled to take place in Nashville on Friday.
