On Monday, police were forced to use a stun gun on one of the two people accused of murdering 2-year-old Jada Justice.
Tim Tkachik, 24, appeared for his court hearing with a bruise on his left cheek and his head bandaged.
Nwi.com reported that a spokesperson for the county, Michael Higgins, said while Tkachik was in a holding cell he “got up on a table and was trying to get into an electrical panel. He was asked nicely to get down and when he didn’t they had to use a Tazer.”
According to Higgins, the jail staff took care of any injuries Tkachik may have received during the incident.
Engelica Castillo, 18, Jada’s cousin was babysitting the little girl while her mother, Melissa Swiontek, was away on a trip. Castillo claimed the girl disappeared when she left her alone in an unlocked car, but Tkachik told police otherwise. He said Castillo continued to hit Jada and later she stopped breathing. Tkachik led police to the body on Thursday.
Castillo was also in court and appeared to be trembling. She and Tkachik were both charged with neglecting, battering, and murdering Jada on June 13—three days before Castillo reported her missing.
Both Tkachik and Castillo pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Tkachik continued to be disruptive in the courtroom and the magistrate had to warn him not to interrupt and to pay attention during the hearing.
Both defendants were ordered to appear in court next week to begin a series of pre-trial hearings.
