This week Casey Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez, filed a motion for change of venue for his client’s upcoming trial. He believes the Florida mother accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter cannot get a fair trial in Orlando because of the excessive media coverage.
Baez wants to move the trial to south Florida in Miami-Dade County.
“The local coverage has been so constant and at times so inflammatory that members of the local community have already formed their opinion without hearing one piece of evidence,” said Baez.
Baez is also upset at the pace the state is moving in the case and believes Casey’s trial may not begin until 2010. But, he said, “I have to respect the court’s trial date. I can’t ignore it, so we have to operate as if we’re going in October.”
Baez said to reporters, “You guys have seen us in court on numerous occasions trying to get the discovery moving along, and look here we are nine, 10 months later, and we’re still having the same problems.”
Casey is charged with the first-degree murder of Caylee and her trial is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 12.
