Casey Anthony’s attorneys had asked the court to dismiss the defamation case brought against their client by Zenaida Gonzalez. On Tuesday, an Orlando judge ruled the lawsuit could proceed.
Zenaida claims she was defamed by Casey when Casey told police her daughter, Caylee, had been kidnapped by a babysitter named Zenaida Gonzalez.
Zenaida claims the negative publicity she received due to this case has resulted in her losing jobs and being unable to gain new employment.
The lawsuit is asking for money due to lost wages, and on Tuesday the judge also allowed Zenaida’s lawyers to amend the complaint to add punitive damages.
See the hearing below:
Casey is charged with the first-degree murder of 2-year-old Caylee and her murder trial is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 12.
