President Obama signs stem cell order, regardless of consequences
This Monday marked another day in which President Obama achieved his “progressive” agenda while disregarding the rights of his own citizens.
The Executive Order he signed has lifted the ban on stem cell research President George W. Bush had put in place the first year of his administration.
Though the hope is that such research will cure Alzheimer’s and other dibilating diseases, supporters often leave out what is at skate in the name of scientific progress.
Let us not forget how stem cells are acquired. They come from a blastocyst, or in plain terms, a fertilized egg four days after conception. Very often the fertilized eggs would come from couples who had the eggs fertilized during in-vitro, but decided not to keep the living embryos. Also, what many well-informed supporters will not mention is that stem cells can also come from aborted babies.
Admitted by scientists as a form of cloning, stem cell research involves what is called “therapeutic cloning,” in which the cells are transformed to act like the diseases and offer clues to various cures.
In-vitro fertilization and abortion are moral and human issues in-and-of-themselves, and many liberal/progressive types will try to present stem cells as justification to these sick behaviors. How are we to decide which life is worth saving and which to discard in the name of scientific progress?
We as human beings cannot deny the fact that we were all embryos once. The problem with stem cell/abortion advocates is that they do not recognize the rights of these embryos as fellow human life worth protecting.
Additionally, it is a mystery as to why any stem cell advocate would not tout the alternatives, which offer solutions but do not interfere with the rights of humans. Scientists have affirmed that clues and cures into various diseases can be found in cells taken from adult bone marrow and umbilical cords. If we are to spend taxpayer money on such research, it should be done in a non-controversial and non-life threatening way.
President Obama has essentially lifted all regulations in order for this process to proceed, and is throwing billions of dollars worth of taxpayer dollars to do it. While most Americans can agree that funding research for diseases is generally a good thing, how the research is conducted remains a controversial and moral issue.
Just another step in the wrong direction for President Obama, while the country is reluctantly on board.
