I have no medical training.  None.  I have had 3 children and that is about the extent of my personal visits with doctors.  My husband, on the other hand, has met nearly every specialist in the Sioux Falls area.  From medical doctors to ear, nose and throat specialists, he has had extensive blood work, his tonsils removed, CT scans, thyroid testing, allergy testing, more blood work all in desperate search of an answer to extreme, debilitating fatigue accompanied with headaches, sore throats and body aches.

When the medical field could provide no answers, we had no choice but to begin our own research.  We found information on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome www.cdc.gov/CFS/ and fibromyalgia www.fibromyalgia-symptoms.org/ which symptomatically fit.  It would break my heart to read forum after forum of people suffering with these same symptoms and nobody being given any answers.  People's lives were completely debilitated and they were being told to take anti-depressants or to find ways to "cope with it".  Just giving the symptoms a name and "living with it" was not an acceptable solution for our family.

We then went down the Lyme disease road www.lyme.org/otherdis/ld.html.   The symptoms were very similar and, as a result,  I was able to talk in-depth with a woman in Colorado who lost her son (www.noahsteven.blogspot.com/).  Through that conversation, continued research and a visit to a naturopath www.naturopathic.org/, we received a diagnosis of Candida overgrowth www.nationalcandidacenter.com/.  Basically, the bad yeast cells overtook the good cells and were wreaking havoc in my husband's body (Remember, no medical training).

We (I say we because this condition changed our family's daily activities based on my husband's health) began first with a dietary change.  The first 4-6 weeks consisted of protein (fish, chicken, beef) vegetables, nuts, water, spelt bread and eggs.   Nothing with white sugar or flour, yeast or alcohol was allowed.  Gradually, we were able to add any other natural, healthy foods.  The other half of this mode of treatment was a product called Three Lac www.amazon.com/Threelac-Probiotic-Dietary-Supplement-053-Ounce/dp/B000F4H5U4.  This is a pro biotic dietary supplement  that is mixed with liquid.  We purchased our box at Wayne and Mary's www.wayneandmarys.com/retailer/store_templates/shell_id_1.asp in Sioux Falls.

Candida is a lifelong issue.  We will continue to be conscientious about the foods we eat and how they affect our bodies.  We are prepared for the possibility of setbacks.  However, we are now about 3 months in and the difference is amazing.  Before the Candida diagnosis, I would have described my husband as "lifeless" or "going through the motions".  He now has energy for simple things like mowing our grass, playing with our children.  He has once again taken up golf and I couldn't be more thrilled.  Ok, If you've read this far, I hope you'll indulge the following, shameless plug:  My husband is a classically styled singer and Candida affected him most with constant sore throats, taking an obvious toll on performing.  We are thrilled to hear him sing again www.damianmarchand.com/index.php.
