In Tuesday morning's newspaper, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution editorial board printed its endorsement of Democrat Jim Martin, in his challenge to Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), in the Georgia Senate runoff. Voters go to the polls in Georgia today to choose whether or not Mr. Chambliss gets to keep his Senate seat.

In its endorsement, the AJC calls Martin a "fighter for the little guy."

"Throughout his life," the editorial board wrote of Martin, "he has been known as a workhorse, not a showhorse, someone whose first concern was getting the job done well rather than trying to get the credit."

In deciding against supporting Chambliss, the paper said, "Time and again, on issue after issue, Chambliss has taken the side of the powerful and influential over those of the taxpayer and general citizen."

As far as pre-election polling goes, they show that Chambliss has a statistically neutral lead. "However," the AJC cautioned, in a separate article, "runoff elections are notoriously hard to survey because turnout is unpredictable."
