Nora Ephron's film, Julie & Julia, which opened last weekend, has boosted the sales of Julia Child's cookbook featured in the film, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Monday morning, the cookbook rose to the #1 sales rank spot on both Barnes & Noble.com and Amazon.com.
The publisher of the book, A. A. Knopf, posted a response to the boost on Twitter: "Wonderful to see the comeback!"
The film stars Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Amy Adams as Julie Powell, a writer who cooked all of the over 500 recipes in the book in 365 days and wrote about it on her blog. The blog was subsequently published as a book. Ms. Ephron wrote the screenplay and directed the picture.
The movie also did well on its own at the box office over the weekend, grossing over $20 million, according to boxofficemojo.com. Critically, the movie has a 76% positive rating at RottenTomatoes.com from a collection of 123 reviews and a score of 70 out of 100 based on 14 critical reviews at moviefone.com.
