Professional cyclist, Lance Armstrong's, book It's Not About the Bike--which chronicles Armstrong's growing up with a single mom in Texas through his victorious return to cycling after battling cancer--has made a move closer to becoming a film. According to Variety, Gary Ross, writer and director of Sea Biscuit, based on the book by Laura Hillenbrand, has been hired to write the script.

The Columbia project may begin shooting next year, according to producer Frank Marshall. Casting is still in the early stages. Matt Damon's name has been suggested as a possible actor to play Armstrong.
Armstrong's book: It's Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life, written with Sally Jenkins, came out in 2000 and became a #1 New York Times Bestseller.
The film has been on the back burner for awhile, but it seems Armstrong's reappearance on the cycling tour has renewed interest in the project.
The athlete's charitable organization, The Lance Armstrong Foundation, with its famous fundraising yellow, "Livestrong" wristbands, works to unite people to fight cancer. Armstrong's most recent return to the tour is said to be primarily to help keep attention on the ongoing fight against the disease.
