'New Moon's Taylor Lautner passes football to Jerry Rice on 'The Jay Leno Show.' -- Taylor Lautner, who plays werewolf Jacob Black in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, appeared on The Jay Leno Show Monday night. The movie is based on the bestselling novel by Stephenie Meyer and also stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
During his appearance, Mr. Leno asked the actor to "earn his plug." This is a regular feature on the Leno show where actors are asked to perform a small task before they may show a clip of their movies. In their previous conversation, Leno asked Lautner if he enjoyed football and what players he admired. One of the players he mentioned was Jerry Rice.
To earn his plug, Mr. Leno invited Lautner to throw a football, and the young actor said he was willing. Instead of doing it himself, however, the show's host had football star Jerry Rice come out from behind the stage curtain to do the job. Taylor said he felt "intimidated" by Mr. Rice, but he still participated in the fun. Mr. Rice, for his part, encouraged Taylor by saying that the actor and extreme martial arts champion was obviously "in good shape."
Lautner threw the ball to Rice with speed and accuracy that surprised the veteran Super Bowl winner. He went up in the audience, further away, and Lautner still threw the ball right to him. Rice threw it back, and Lautner caught it. Mr. Lautner had earned his plug.
The clip shown as a result was exclusive to The Jay Leno Show. Jacob arrives at Bella's house and climbs the tree outside her bedroom window and jumps through it. "Have you ever had a secret that you could tell to no one?" he asks her.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon premiered in Westwood Monday evening. The film opens wide across the country on Friday, November 20, with midnight showings in many locations.
