Robert Pattinson, star of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, thinks Gus Van Sant "would be great" to direct Breaking Dawn, the fourth movie adaptation of the last novel in The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. Mr. Pattinson made the remark in answer to a question by MTV's Larry Carroll, posted on the MTV website today.
There has been a different director for every installment of the adaptations so far: Twilight was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who went on to become the highest grossing female director in film history with that film. The Twilight Saga: New Moon was directed by Chris Weitz, who added a different color palette to the more troubled and sorrowful episode that is the second movie. Director David Slade took on the action-packed third film, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which recently wrapped production in Vancouver, Canada.
Mr. Pattinson suggested Van Sant because he frequently works in Portland, Oregon, site of the first film and rumored preferred location for the filming of Breaking Dawn and, he says, because of the "teenage love and obsession" that the film embraces which are familiar territory for Van Sant. Van Sant, he says, "is good at making things look beautiful." Van Sant directed movies such as Milk and Good Will Hunting.
