So you have a whole porch full of pumpkins, and maybe you're thinking you'd like to use one or two for eating instead of just throwing them away. If you've never prepared a pumpkin for eating you may feel a little overwhelmed, but it's actually very easy.
-
Cut your pumpkin in half, quarters, or however small you need the pieces for them to be managable, and fit in your pan.
-
Scrape the inside, cleaning it of all seeds and stringy pieces.
-
Melt some butter in your baking dish.
-
Place pumpkin pieces, cut side down in a baking dish.
-
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
-
Turn cut sides up. Bake, covered, for 20 to 25 minutes more or till tender. Larger pieces may take longer.
-
Once your pumpkin is cooked, allow it to cool until you can handle it comfortably.
-
Remove the cooked pumpkin from the outer shell. The cooked pumpkin should peel away from the shell fairly easily.
-
Puree the cooked pumpkin in a blender or food processor. It is now ready to use. Extra pumpkin puree can be frozen for a couple of months and removed when needed.
